1862 Adam Opel started producing sewing machines in Rüsselsheim. The production of cars began in 1899. By 1928 Opel became the largest car manufacturer in germany. Until 1931 General Motors assumed full control. The market share of new car registrations in 2015 has been about 7,2% in germany. In 2017 General Motors sold Opel to the PSA Group (Peugeot)
